Days 22/23 – July 25/26th. Bowen. The answer is Bowen in the wind.

Bowen is an unassuming town that compared to some of its neighbours like Airlie Beach, it seems like the forgotten relative of the Whitsundays. There are a couple of bays, a nice Sunday market, good coffee and we stayed in an unassuming small caravan park. It is so unassuming that the Woolworths can’t even be bothered to open on a Sunday.

That’s OK. We had a great chat with some neighbours, an attempted swim, coffee and milkshake by the water, and fresh local prawns for dinner. We didn’t even make it to the big mango. Does it matter? No. we are on holidays.

Rose Bay Caravan Park – Google review

Not sure if the bay is named after a person, but there is not a single rose in Rose Bay, but you can’t fault the caravan park for just saying where they are as it makes it easy to find. This is not a large park, which forms part of its charm. It does mean that large setups are a challenge to get into the space, but the owner could be an ex-tetris champion and manages to fit them in. Somehow. Steady upgrades mean that while the buildings may not look modern, a lot of the facilities are. 4 Stars
