Day 26 – July 29th. Mission Beach. Adulting at the Bali Hai Child Free Caravan Park

Before I start, it is important to note that there is a big difference between Adults Only and Child Free. While Adults Only conjures up images of stores with blacked out shop fronts and big X’s on the sign, child free just means that there are no children. It would be fair to say that as we are bringing the average age of the campers down a little, so I am glad it is child free.

With everything being pitched at a more mature audience, and no families running ragged, they have put great thought into the facilities and surroundings. Shade umbrellas over the pool is such a simple thing. Yes, we have finally made it into the water for a swim.

Mission Beach is quite stunning. We have seen a lot of beaches, and are lucky enough to have a great one close by in Ocean Grove. But, this 14k stretch of sand does take the breath away and invite you into the waters. There are few people on the beach, and even less actually in the water and this is the cruel irony. You can’t be sure there are no crocs in there just waiting for a pale, juicy Victorian to nibble on. Not highly likely, but a sign suggesting that there had been a salty seen in the last week in the river by the campsite means that it is not impossible. We waded along the golden sands and blue water, but this was not the most relaxed I’ve ever been on a beach.

The vibe of this park is nice, and we are only here for one night, but have decided to come back for 3 nights on our return trip to explore some waterfalls and tracks that are away from the beach. The site booking is well away from the creek at the back of the park.

What a delight to have stayed here for a night. The facilities were of excellent standard, the grounds well kept and the pool didn’t have lonely kids looking for other kids and their dads to play with because their dad was onto beer #7 at 3pm just to get ready to go to the pub for a few more and a counter meal. A comfortable stay within a couple of minutes walk from the most stunning beach that probably doesn’t have crocodiles. Or it might. The pool was good. 5 stars.
