August 26. Yeppoon - Moonrises and Sunrises.

Not a great start to the day. Twenty minutes into the 3 hour drive, one of the many trucks passing us on the Bruce Highway threw up a stone that hit us fair and square in the middle of the windscreen. There was an almighty cracking sound only matched by the expletive I expressed shortly thereafter. The chip and resulting crack in the screen was the size of a 50 cent piece and resembled a crescent moon. Thankfully,we were able to move off to the side of the road and ring the insurance company. It was a bit hard to explain that we were between Brandybottle and Yeppoon to some guy from Sydney on the phone, but Neil was great. We have booked in for a replacement windscreen in Brisbane next Friday. The assurance that the screen will not shatter and it is ok to drive for a bit is a relief as well. These days, not only do you need the right windscreen in stock, but you need to be able to get the electronics all hooked up, so we are grateful we can be fit in somewhere when it sort of suits us. We will have 3 hours next Friday visiting the outskirts of Brisbane while it is fitted, while on our way to Fingal Head.
For a place we weren’t going back to after trip 1, our two visits to Yeppoon have been highlights this trip. I have been talking a lot about the parks we stay at, and the experience of a town visited can be really swayed by where you stay. First time in Yeppoon, it was at an NRMA park overrun by kids with parents not giving two hoots about what they were doing (we coined the term Chicken Nuggeters for them, as they whack some nuggets in the air fryer, give them to the kids for tea and then pop off down to the pub). The place we stayed at both times this trip, the beachside holiday park, had mixed reviews as the owners are overly fastidious and very protective of their concrete pads, however the site is right on the beach and watching the moon come up at night and the sunrise in the morning over the beach just makes this place.
We did another beach walk, a stroll through town, and had dinner under the stars. That was it, not much, but left us wanting more.

Second visit in a month, and the sites along the beach are what the caravan park makes it’s name on – rightly so. Moonrise and Sunrise over the beach from our chairs is a nice way to spend an overnight stop. Not sure why they have to ring on the day and ask for time of arrival, but google maps was spot on to the minute, but we didn’t seem to get any bonus points for that.
