Day 2. June 21 2022. Lake Hume \ Albury \ Wodonga
Non-travel day. Nice to be able to get up late and nice for me to start winding down from work after finishing on Friday. Linda finished two weeks ago and while busy doing a lot of final organising, has been ready to go for most of it. Just a casual wander around Albury and then onto Wodonga. Good to see a regional centre with plenty of bustle. Seeing Chiltern basically dead, and on a recent trip going through Ouyen and seeing how dead that was was a bit of shock. Albury still had quite a few places to lease on the main strip, but people were there and the shops were open. Biggest excitement was in Wodonga though, with a petrol station selling at 1.79 a litre, 25cents cheaper than anywhere else. It was the most popular place in Wodonga, but the attendant insisted it was due to their superior customer service.
Back to the accommodation at Lake Hume for a walk. Around the outskirts of the lake and back along the dam wall – such an impressive structure. Next to our “resort” is a big old style hotel overlooking the lake, and Linda had spied it as a great place for a sundowner. Not our lucky day though and is not open on Monday and Tuesdays. We had to settle for a drink on our balcony being watched very closely by two magpies as we munched on our cheese and biscuits. It was more unsettling than Jordon DeGoey on a Balinese dance floor, but we got through it unscathed.
