Day 7 and 8. June 26 and 27 2022. Canton Beach and Forster

Leaving the blue mountains and starting the trek north with a series of 4 one night stays. Canton Beach is next to The Entrance where Linda and I stayed 27 and a half years ago on our honeymoon journey to the gold coast. It sticks out as a highlight of that trip as it was heading for disaster. We had just bought a house, got married and were stretched to the limit at the time. Our honeymoon destination was the Gold Coast to stay with my Aunty Brenda who couldn’t make it to the wedding, and we both really wanted to share our happiness with her in some way. We had booked modest accommodation along the way, but I had found a place at The Entrance that we splashed a bit extra on and was supposed to be the highlight accommodation along the way.

Once getting the keys and going to the room, we took one look at it and walked out. It was ordinary and very disappointing. All we had was the RACV tour book to go by, no social media ratings by disaffected traveler’s on Trip Advisor. We were left without accommodation for the night, and everything was booked out due to some festival starting the next day. We eventually found a caravan park who had a caravan that we could use for the night, but had to be out early as it was booked the next day for an early arrival. No worries, thankyou.

Disappointed, but happy to have somewhere to stay, we found the allotted caravan. It was literally on the beach. Not next to it, on it. It was fabulous. The weather was warm (early December) and we went for a walk on the beach you see in the picture above. Pelicans came from everywhere, and suddenly we were in the middle of Storm Boy. It’s funny how no matter how many walks we have been on since, this one stands out in my memory. Place and time over quality is the key. We could recognise the place today, and it was nice to revisit.

Landed in Forster, and it seems a lovely place. However, the weather is like a prawn gone off in the sun, it stunk. Quiet night inside listening to the wind howl off the lake into the cabin. That’s OK too.
