Day 4. May 8 2024. Hay to Cobar: Gettin' to where we need to be.

Over 400ks today – just to get further north. Not a lot of excitement expected, and the day delivered. While no live kangaroos jumping across the road today there were emus, cows, and goats. Lots of goats. This appears to be goat country for some reason. While blaring the horn to warn them off the road worked, they must be pretty nimble as there wasn’t any goat road kill. So have to go to the shops for dinner tonight.

Cobar is a mining town, Copper and Gold. Steeped in history and the shire of Cobar is bigger than Denmark, even with their fjords. A lot cleaner than Coober Pedy and not quite as struggling as Mt. Isa, interesting place to camp for a couple of nights. In a caravan park in town for the next two nights and no surprise ensuite. We have to share with everyone else, but a good opportunity to get the steps up going backwards and forwards after a couple of quiet beers before tea.

A general rule that needs to be talked about too is – Don’t wear the shirt if you are not up for the conversation. Even this far north, heart of NRL country, wearing a bulldogs top will not only create conversation you don’t want to have when your team is losing, but does make you stand out and easily identifiable for follow up chats. Will get some hi-vis tomorrow so I can blend in.
