Day 65-67. 8th - 10th July 2024. Esperance. Beached.

What a coastline. This is what we have been expecting of the WA coastline. At the risk of committing heresy – while their Great ocean drive is not as long as Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, it is more diverse and accessible without the tourist traps of Lorne along the way. With the three nights there, we got one full day with the sun out which allowed us to take in the magnificent colours of the bay. Not only the golden sand beaches, but the craggy rocks, coves, islands, lookouts and a surprise around every corner. For a 20k drive, it was surprisingly packed full of eye candy. Even though we did forget our bathers, there was one clothing optional beach that we passed on as we left the towels in the car.

The park we stayed at was again very handy in the cold weather and the kitchen allowed us to use an oven for the first time on our trip other than the Fremantle apartment. These kitchens at the RAC parks are well used and you get to chat to many different people travelling from around the world – Including Geelong. The camp kitchens generally on the trip have been underutilised due to most vans now having super duper kitchens and it has meant that we haven’t been chatting to so many people at them, so this makes a welcome change.

Facilities: An ensuite to die for. This would be welcome as an ensuite in any bedroom. Room to move, a rain shower with tiles and a glass shower screen. We showered twice as good on our last morning as we headed off to the Nullarbor and knew we were staying at roadhouses again. 10/10.
