May 20-21 Banka Banka and Bitter Springs
We travelled down the Barkly Highway, heading towards Threeways, the big T-intersection at the end of the Barkly where you need to make a decision: left towards Adelaide, right towards Darwin. We headed right. The Barkly was severely damaged in recent floods and is still being repaired. The potholes were huge, and the trip was very slow. We were lucky that the road was open.
We stayed the night at Banka Banka, one of our favourites from our last trip, it has changed a bit since last time, but it was nice to revisit. Photos of our walk to the waterhole…and the flies (thankfully they disappeared as the sun went down).
After Banka Banka we headed to Mataranka to visit Bitter Springs. It is so beautiful floating in the warm spring water on a noodle. Next morning we were back at the springs by 7am to have another swim before packing up and heading off to Katherine
