Day 2. July 5 2026. Euroa to Yass. Yass, Queen!
Tried to turn on our luxury heater in our new whizz bang van at 6:30 this morning so it would be nice and warm for coffee and breakfast. It made some unfamiliar and very loud sounds for sparrows fart and we shut it down and reached for the manual. Does it seem unreasonable to you that if you put a heater in a van that it won’t work when it reaches below 4 degrees Celsius outside?????
After thawing out, and a quick pack up we first hit a waterlogged Wangaratta for pillow purchasing and an unsuccessful hunt for a sausage roll. Two days in and no pastry pleasures is not good, but we will soldier on. Another hop to lunch in Wodonga and grabbing a little fan heater that won’t complain that it is too chill to toast. Next, over the border into NSW and putting in some k’s through to Yass. Linda had her first drive with the van with no event, although the first stint was only 10 k’s to readjust mirrors.
We switched drivers again in Tarcutta. Not only because it was convenient, but we had to check for curried egg sandwiches at the Tarcutta servo and check to see if was indeed 40 degrees in the shade. Then a final stretch to Yass, arriving with enough time for a walk and then retire to the toasty warm van. Tomorrow, we hope to see a town that is open and has sausage rolls. BTW, it is disappointing they have updated the McDonalds Yass sign since it became famous.
Google review. Yass Valley caravan park. 4 stars.
We were next to a footy ground and not a valley, but the caravan did indeed park there in spacious drive through sites that allowed concrete to step out on and no unhitching of the van. As Yass is purely a drive through for us on a bigger trip, the metaphor was not lost. Walking distance to town which would have been handy if not arriving on a Sunday night where the 6,600 residents of Yass have decided that it is far more cosy inside. Facilities clean and that is all you can ask for.
