Day 3/4. July 6/7 2026. Umina Beach. Baker Boy gets put on notice.

We did a long stretch on the road to get around Sydney and to our first beach. Only one stop which was a little town called Marulan which promised the unique honour of being the only town in the world on the 150th meridian east, which sets Australian Eastern Standard Time. It also means that at every equinox that the sun rises at 6am and sets at 6pm (approximately). I presume Goodenough Bay in the Soloman islands isn’t good enough to have a town. We have been across the equator and also stood astride the prime meridian and thought this was something to add to the picture reel – but the meridian arch was so poor it wasn’t worth getting wet in the rain for a photo.

Umina beach is the first stop at a place we had never heard of. Our aim is to hit the beaches, and we take a chance on Wikicamps reviews, google reviews, between 2 to 4 hours driving to find spots to land on. We have done well first up with long stretch of beach, little coves, a great lookout, a little hike, and a pretty chill vibe in the whole area. We also visited Woy Woy on the promise of a record shop, so we have hit the highlights. With a two night stop, I feel like the holiday has started. Surprise location was Booker Bay, which had a Booker Bay Road which appropriately had Bogan Road coming off it like a branch on the family tree.

It has been good here seeing large recreation areas being used by lots of people during the school holidays. Bike parks, rock climbing, playgrounds, the beach, it’s really good to see. I had also not really appreciated how many beaches the NSW coast has. Almost everyone here should have a seafront property, although a lot are so close to the seafront, I am not sure they could afford the climate change insurance.

The van throws up another learning at around 8pm at night. We notice that we have no 240v power – therefore, no heater and no electric kettle for Linda, so it was pretty serious. After checking cables, fuses, power source, manuals, and many resources online, I finally found on a facebook site for Alto owners that there was a 240v power trip switch just inside the door and that it was not unusual for people to knock it as they came and went. Flicking it back on gave us the valuable power source we craved and we breathed a sigh of relief that we are not on the hunt for an auto electrician the next day.

NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Park google review.

Unlike other caravan parks, this one advertises that holidays park there by the Ocean Beach. I did indeed see plenty of families parked and holidaying, and as they are next to an Ocean Beach, this hits all of its promises of the headline. We stayed in an ensuite unit as we do like to shower and toilet alone where possible, and this was beautifully tiled, had hot water and no shower curtain. The park is huge and does have lots of kids holidaying while their parents are also holidaying. If you are looking for a quiet secluded getaway, this is not the place you are looking for. 4 stars
