September 4-5. Fingal Head. Beaches and family catchup.

We have an early start to go and get the windscreen fixed – a two hour drive to Brendale just north of Brisbane. It is a 3-4 hour fitting time, and then have another couple of hours to get to our destination of Fingal Head. Everything running to schedule meant we would be right to get to Fingal Head by 4 o’clock and be set up ready to catch up with family. Unfortunately, the Brisbane to Gold Coast traffic wasn’t so accommodating, making the 2 hour trip take 3.5 hours.

What was great was catching up with my cousin Naomi and her husband Lee. We see each other rarely and certainly haven’t travelled together before. They are keen campers and had been following our adventures with interest, so we were all looking forward to setting up camping alongside each other for a couple of nights and catching up. Spectacular weather allowed late night chats onto the beach, camp dinners by the van, coffee by the beach and a fabulous walk that included surfing dolphins and of course fantastic views.

We haven’t really camped with other people before. Even though we know Naomi and Lee are lovely, it is a different experience having to think about other people when for the last 9 weeks it has just been us. To be honest, I was a little nervous about it going well and not being awkward, but I need not have been. Everything was very laid back with shared cooking, a couple of beers and a great chat catching up on years of missed experience. It is also nice to talk to some other people. Even saying goodbye down on the beach, we had a whale breech as if it was also saying goodbye. Would do again, 5 stars.
