Day 40. July 29 2022. Cloncurry. Hawks or Eagles?
Cloncurry is a last minute decision. We have decided against staying in Mount Isa. So have stopped early and will drive through the next day to our next destination. There have been many positive reports and quite a few negative reports about Mount Isa, and while the mining side of things sounds interesting to look at, the environment does not sound like one we want to stay in overnight. One caravan park resorts to locking in the residents at 10pm and not opening til 6 in the morning. While we wouldn’t be out on the town at night, we decide on a longer day to get to Camooweal. In the mean time, we have a day in Cloncurry to make that trip shorter.
One drawcard was it’s world renowned pies, as one friend had told me, but I think they have dropped the ball a bit since they were here last. We have a nice lunch by Chinaman Creek Dam, and watch the birds soaring above looking for their lunch. Not really sure if they are Hawks or Eagles, but they are so majestic, I could barrack for them. We have seen many of them hovering above the road, and on occasion the float near the front of the car and you get a great look at them.
