May 29 - 30 Wyndham
After a tour of the auto electricians and replacing the battery in the van, we left Kunnanurra for a few days in Wyndham. Wyndham is a quiet little dusty town, apparently the most northerly WA town that can be accessed via a bitumen road. We visited the Grotto, a waterhole that is at the bottom of a winding staircase carved into the rock walls. Dave had a swim. The other tourist highlight was the five rivers lookout, where five rivers join up before meeting the sea. It is a popular place to watch the sunset.
We were quite unprepared for the tropical storm that hit late in the afternoon of our second day – our van is not suited to such weather, and we spent the evening hiding out on the couch conveniently placed in front of the laundry in the caravan park. A lovely man (with a giant dog named Tiny) gave us some beers…
